Harvesting & Vase Life
Dahlias do not continue to open once cut, so harvest timing is important.
- Harvest when blooms are about three-quarters open but not overripe.
- Check the back of the flower head for firm, lush petals rather than papery or dehydrated ones.
- Condition stems by placing them in water with a floral hydrator, or sear the stem ends in 160–180°F water for one hour before cooling.
- Vase life is approximately five days with proper conditioning.
